My Favourite Vancouver Island Photos
Since I’m always looking for excuses to post hiking photos, I thought making a gallery of some of my favourite Vancouver Island photos could serve as a Wednesday pick-me-up for you and some inspiration to actually pack something for me. We’ve got ferry rides and mushrooms and mussels, both wet and dry seasons represented, and of course multiple shots of my best boi and favourite hiking partner. It has been a strange and difficult year, and we’ve been extremely lucky all things considered. Kaleb and I are both able to work either outside or remotely, and we’ve stayed safe and cozy at home. I’m so grateful to have my little apartment and my big garden and my cat and my person. And almost more than anything, our saving grace this year has been our truck. Abigail (this truck is robust and feminine) let us hold onto some semblance of normalcy via BC summer road trips.

This week is my ten-year Vanniversary. Ten years of living in Vancouver, Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh land, after coming here for school with a partner and a plan to go home when my two years were up. Ten years of griping about the rain, of riding my bike, of camping on some of the nicest logging roads around, of being surrounded by lovely people and black cats and so many flowers.

Roadtripping is my favourite way to travel. Is it hard to do laundry? Yes. Do I eat way too many granola bars? Of course. Does the car get pretty stinky pretty quickly? Obviously. But I get to find the best breakfast spots, camp in new forests, see everything from ground level.
